regret & my foolish head

You know those moments that you look back on with utter regret because you said something before thinking about the outcome and the affect and who was in the room? You sit there, those words just playing over and over in your head, the response echoing inside the deepest caves of your mind. You realize how foolish the human mind is and despite all of the calculating and the thinking it can do, it is completely 100% absurd  But, gosh. This happens way too many times.
I promise I did not mean it the way you think I did.
Don't worry.
I regret it.

Momentary Hero (for May 21 and 22)

The rescuers worked tirelessly moving the rubble.  It was their third day straight and the doctors made it clear that no one could survive three days under the rubble, that only corpses would be found. But it was then they uncovered them, three children lying underneath the rubble. The oldest of the three, a girl named Maizy, lay slightly on top of the smaller children, arms around them, shielding them. To the amazement of the rescuers and doctors, all three children survived. The younger two children were barely harmed. But the girl had suffered multiple injuries, including a broken back.

The doctors marveled at her courage, saving the other children from the earthquake, and at her strength. Her wounds healed in record time. However, it quickly became clear she would never walk again. Exactly one month after being brought to the hospital, Maizy’s wheelchair was rolled in front of a room full of reporters fighting to ask questions of the little hero. She answered each question with minimal words but she didn’t like being called a hero.
She knew she was only a momentary hero. They would forget her, and then she was left to live as a paraplegic.

I Found You

I’m running. Running hard.
Every moment I expect a bullet in my back
I need a weapon
I need water
Every breath is a cloud of ash inside my mouth.

There’s a body on the ground
large green eyes flickering out
He has a weapon. I take it
Keep running.
Now another, a faceless runs toward me.
I lift the gun, I’ll kill him here and now.
The bullet flies, it strikes, he falls.
But as I pass I see his mask is off
His face is scared, and some of it’s gone.
But I’d know it anywhere.
My brother.

On the Death of an Old Family Friend, To His Wife

Fare thee well, my love, my darling
I’ll come to thee ere the dawn

Fare thee well, thou room of sickness
Round the bed the curtains drawn

Wait for me, my love, my darling
Out beyond the river cold

We’ve walked long toiling, laughing
Hand in hand grown gray and old

Wait awhile thou room of sickness
Thou hast a time but it’ll end

Out beyond the golden river
Thou wilt find us well again

Fare thee well, my love, my darling
Soon again I’ll see thy face

We’ve been promised sure, my darling
No farewells are in that place

Rebekah

So there is this girl. I love her dearly.
I haven’t talked to her in a long, long time.
Sometimes it feels like months and months.

In reality it’s only been about a week.

I have tried the conventional methods of communication. Nothing to invasive incase she is on a spy mission.
But I have heard no reply. I have seen her writings, but nothing in communication.
If you see a wavy head of dark hair, and a face that lights when she smiles, tell her she’s missed.

And that I hope her phone didn’t get dropped in a toilet.

downpour

The rain came with driving force. It pummeled me as I lifted my face to the sky. I felt the water like bullets pelt my skin.

No one could see my tears streaming down as they mixed with the rain on my cheeks. It was probably better that way. Besides, I was the only crazy person out in the downpour.

The grey sky mirrored my heart’s mood. I felt as though nature was explaining me better than I could explain myself.

That’s when a ray of light pierced through the gloom. And I saw the rainbow, bright against the darkness.
