El Fin (5.31.11) * sniff *

No more the music plays. No more the audience laughs and weeps. No more the actors act. Empty is the auditorium, everyone is gone. And alone I sit upon the empty stage. Reliving and replaying the play that’s said and done. Stand I now, upon the stage, where the actors once did. And take I a gracious bow, with not but space to see. The clapping crowds and cheering multitude now have all gone home. But here I am upon the stage, bowing all alone. I spring off the stage, and run through the door.

The thick red curtain on the stage has fallen, once more.

5.24.11 Kisses

She looked at him, smiled, and drew him in close. It was just as Aunt Betty had said: true love at first sight.
So, she kissed him quietly in the privacy of the parlor. She kissed him loudly in the kitchen for attention. She kissed him quickly under the steps before dashing outside. She kissed him softly at night before climbing into bed. She kissed him lovingly in the town.
She kissed him until his head fell off and rolled across the dirt.
And then she cried as Aunt Betty told her she would never buy her another doll again.

5.12.11 A Deadly Crash

“Delta, Able, Bravo…” a hissing sound accompanied the panicked words that transmitted over the radio.
“Captain!” the radio operator called. “Our fighter plane is going down! He’s yelling the code!”
The captain shook his head as the plane whizzed before his eyes. Suddenly it dropped, crumpling in a heap on the grass.
The captain and the entire Air Force knelt by the wreck and peered at the plastic figurine standing in as the pilot. He lay sprawled on the ground just inches from his flimsy aircraft of old cereal box.
The captain pointed a grubby finger. “Yup, he’s definitely dead.”
