5.31.11 luminous - a drabble of 100 words

Sixty-two years is a long time. Did you always hold her hand the way you are right now? I wish I could see her with your eyes. When I look at her I see a frail, fragile woman, with wrinkles and sagging skin. I see an old woman confused, who doesn’t even remember that she’s in the hospital and still thinks it’s 1972. What do you see, when you look at her? Do you see the girl you married? The mother of your children? Your lover? I guess you think she’s still beautiful.

Did you know you’re making me cry?

5.26.11 - I will be here

"What's that?" says the small child.
"'That' is a puzzle."
“Where does this piece go?”
“That’s the beauty of doing a puzzle. You get to figure out where the pieces go.” the spry uncle replies.
I will listen, I will be here.
“Can I help you?” She says.
“Of course, Remember the first time?” He replies, breathing heavily.
I will be here, when you feel like being quiet.
She places a puzzle piece on then grave. “I remember all the times I did a puzzle with you. You will be with me forever.”
Tomorrow morning if you wake up, and the sun does not appear, I will be here.

5.22.11 Hallway of Memories

As she walks down the dimly lit hallway that’s walls hold many pictures, memories flood hermind. She strides over the well worn carpet slowly, trying to take in every picture like it is the lasttime she will see them.
On her right there are pictures of all of the milestones that have taken place in her family, themarriages, and the births.
On her left she passes by pictures of her deceased family, and a few tears slip down her wrinkled face.
And although she is old and well-worn, the memories are ironed in her mind.

5.24.11 whisper - a drabble of 100 words

The wrinkle-lines of your face are as dear to me now as they ever were. The laugh-lines are so much deeper than the frown-lines. Remember, love, when we said “I do” and then we did? We changed our little world. Your strength made me strong and your love made me beautiful.

Let’s go on holding hands, for as long as we can, love. Your gentle snores the soundtrack of my nights. Your precious old blue eyes the first thing I see in the morning. Just remember, love, til death do us part. Then, and only then, shall I say goodbye.

5.2.11 twinkle - a drabble of 100 words

He was 88 years old. The wispy white hair on top of his head didn’t come close to covering his baldness. The age spots on his hands were markedly brown. He had to use a walker to get around.

There he was, laying in the hospital bed. There I stood next to him, counting out his pills. He took the little white pill cup and the small Styrofoam cup full of water and peered at me, blue eyes full of laughter.

“Are you married?” he asked.

“No,” I responded, grinning.

“If I were 60 years younger, would you marry me?”
