Friend

It’s such a strange thing. We were just two people walking along through life. I with my weirdness and you with yours and somehow our paths crossed and we decided our weirdness was mutually compatible.

Now I suppose we’re friends.

And yet I still can’t help looking back on the path and wondering what it was that made them converge. What extraordinary magic is this that sparks in two hearts at the same time, causing a mirror flame in each, drawing us both together?

Whatever it is, I’m glad it happened to you and me.

It’s less lonely with two.

Holy moly April is over

Dear Drabblers,

You've heard the old saying "April showers bring May flowers"? Well, today I'm introducing you to a new saying. "April showers bring DrabDayMoMay". It's sure to catch on in the general vernacular.

Because here we are. April less than two hours away from her demise. May just around the corner, ready and waiting for us to arrive.

You know the rules. A drabble is a piece of writing exactly 100 words in length. My challenge to you is to write one every single day in May. They can all be a cohesive story. They can be wildly different from each other. Or some sort of in-between state. It's all good.

On Thursdays, I'll post the title for Super Saturday. Saturdays, you post the drabble that goes with that title. You don't have to do it but it's always intriguing to see the different stories that come from the same title.

If you are drabbling on your own blog, that's fine. If you'd like to post your drabbles on this blog, let me know and I can give you access. When posting here, remember to tag your name so that it's easy to read the drabbles by author. And feel free to add other tags as well.

The point is to write. 100 words. 31 days.

Let's do this.

Best of luck,
The Curator

There's Always Next Year

Well, folks, May is officially over. It's been a fun ride. I've loved reading your drabbles. The precision of language and the beauty of finding the exact right word has been so fun to see. I hope you'll join me next year in DrabDayMoMay 2012. I am so proud of all of you for writing whatever you did. I hope that you all use your writing talents to do amazing things.

Job well done!!

Last Minute Details

Hello Everyone,

I am so excited that we begin our month-long adventure in less than an hour!! I just have a few last minute details to go over.

First, for those of you who are writing drabbles (Daily Drabbles and/or Weekly Words), I would love to have all of them posted right to the blog for everyone's reading enjoyment. I think the easiest way to do this will probably be to add you all as admins on the blog. In order to do that, send me your email address and I'll add you.

As far as the Weekly Words goes, I'll send out a message and post it both on the blog and on the event wall on Facebook on Thursdays, thus giving you ample time to write 100 words about it.

For those of you who haven't yet responded, we'd love to have you join our merry little writerly band. Feel no obligation, only our excitement. :)

For everyone, let's get those muses working. Sharpen your pencils and stretch out your typing fingers and let's write!

How This Whole Thing Works

I love to drabble. Contrary to popular belief, a drabble is not at all related to drool or basketball or anything like that. A drabble is a short written work of exactly 100 words in length. I greatly enjoy drabbling for the challenge of making the words fit exactly into the prescribed length. Each word is precious and the writer must be very precise with the choice of language in order to achieve the highest emotional impact. Here are some examples of drabbles I've written.

As some of you may be aware, November is National Novel Writing Month, also known as NaNoWriMo. I participated for the first time last year and while it was enjoyable, I discovered I still prefer drabbling to noveling. Thus, this challenge was born. Each month in May I shall write a drabble a day. A Drabble A Day In The Month Of May. DrabDayMoMay. I know. It's a shameless copy of NaNoWriMo. But they say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, so we'll go with that for now.

I humbly invite all of you to join me in writing 31 drabbles in May. That's only 3,100 words, people. I am firmly convinced you can do it. However, if that seems daunting, fear not! I have a plan. On Saturdays, we have a special feature called "Weekly Words" (at least until someone comes up with a better name). I shall assign a title here on Thursdays and we all shall write a drabble for that title and post it here on this blog on Saturdays. That's only 100 words a week, people, and I'm giving you three days in which to do it. You can do it! GO YOU!

If you are joining in for the Weekly Words, just let me know and I'll make you an admin so that you can post it here. For those doing the Daily Drabbles, we can post those here as well. Just make sure that you put the date first in the title.

So there you have it. A May challenge. 3,100 words for those who feel especially challenged or 400 words for those who feel so inclined.

I can't wait to see what we write!
