audacious

(What do you want from God?)

In a word? Answers.
I have faith, but I also have questions.
Can predestination and freewill coexist?
If God knows all our days than does what we do really matter?
How did two people populate the whole earth?
Why did God send the flood? Did humans get evil faster than he thought?
How did all the animals fit on the ark?
How do science faith and history interact? Can they?
It is all so otherworldly—so beyond my human capacity to understand.
I may never get all the answers. But I choose to believe.

an open letter to the gods and a reaffirmation of faith: To Jove

You call yourself supreme god. You incestuous rapist. You transform yourself to commit crimes and transform others to keep them a secret. Why would anyone worship you? Fear. They have no choice. But I do not fear you.
You are not my God. And unlike Europa, Io, Leucothoe, Callisto, Semele and countless others you cannot steal my purity—my innocence.
Because my God is above all. My God’s integrity is beyond reproach. He transformed himself to repair my crimes and that is no secret. Why would I worship him? Love. “Because perfect love drives out fear.”
This is my God

an open letter to the gods and a reaffirmation of faith: To Minerva

You are the goddess of wisdom and of technical skill. You weave beautiful tapestries but they tell stories that have come to an end. You strike the earth and create life, but with the same hands you strike a girl and take life.
You are not my God. Like Arachne I do not fear you. But unlike her, my story will not be destroyed.
Because my God is the God of all wisdom and expertise. He weaves tapestries of grace—stories only he knows the end of. He creates life in song and with the same voice gives us forgiveness.

A Speaking God

He is not silent
He speaks.
But his voice is not like ours. Ours is just an echo of his.
Just as a statue is a mere depiction of something alive, so our voices are only a mirror of what his is like.
His voice is louder, sweeter, more melodious.
His voice is living and active.
His voice is sharper than a double-edged sword.
His voice was before time began.
He shouts, he cheers, he sings, he whispers. Or at least that is how we categorize it.
But can you really describe the sound of the living, breathing, speaking God?

{radio relationship} 5.4.12

The radio serenaded me on my drive home from class. Justin Beiber told me he could be my boyfriend, Adele told me that she set fire to the rain, The Wanted told me that "you cast a spell on me...and I decided you look well on me." Song after song about relationships-what the radio defines as relationship, emphasizing the physical, playing up feelings, and empowering the moment-the highlight is that one night. But God planned for something so much better. He created relationships more potent than physicality, deeper than feelings.

I don't want a radio relationship.
