Death - well-controlled

Disease. An elusive frontier. Medical professionals. The ones seeking to wrangle it under control. We give pills, shots. Make you change what you eat, how you move. And we name it so on your chart.

Hypertension – well-controlled.
Diabetes – well-controlled.
Congestive heart failure – well-controlled.

There is a frontier yet more elusive than disease. Death still remains outside our control. Don’t think we aren’t making inroads because we are. And the moment of death becomes fuzzier as the days go by. Because we can breathe for you, filter your blood for you, keep you technically alive.

But eventually, we can’t.

For now.

  1. Your writing is always so gut-punching Nicole. A great exposition on inevitability and, by implication, eternity.

  2. This is impeccable. But then again, your drabbles always are. You draw the reader in and unearth thought provoking questions that are unique and different and fascinatingly good.
