The Conquered, Part 4: Falling into Place


You granted me a small company to drive out the bandits. 
They never returned. 
Your advisors didn’t like that.  

Then you gave me a battalion to help defend against the invading barbarians. 
I presented you with the disheveled, severed head of their leader. 
Your advisors cautioned. 

You put me in command of an army.
I reduced the cities of your enemies to ash and rubble. 
Your advisors pleaded with you to execute me. 

But you wouldn’t listen.  You knew that I had brought peace to your kingdom.  

You gave me favor.  You willingly put your own life into my hands.
