Conviction
It's unfortunate that my feelings are so rarely injured, I am always taken by surprise when that subtle sting comes upon me. It's that pesky junior high feeling of being left out, that one cannot validate because one knows it's just so petty, but one also can't seem to shake because insecurity saps one's strength to do so. And insult is added to injury when I catch my reflection in the pool of self-pity I store, when I see that I have, in the same breath, acted in kind to someone else. Hurt people hurt people, and so it goes.
