Mother carefully pushed the bedroom door open. "Alex! Get up Alex." She looked over her shoulder at the wall clock. "Alex, you'll miss the bus." She stepped into the room to retrieve the bed covers, but Alex jerked up.
"Mom! Are fairies real?"
Mother laughed. "No, not that I know of. Come on, get up. You'll be late. We can talk about this downstairs."
"Oh, I know. He said I was going to be late."
Mother was already digging through drawers, pretending to listen. "That's good."
"I've got a ticket, Mom. See?" He held his hand out, palm open, revealing.
