He lay on his back on the hard table, his eyes gazing vacantly at the harsh lights shining down on him. A tall woman in a long white coat moved about the room, touching bottles, opening cabinets, marking paper with ink.
“It’s okay,” she said as she caught sight of his anxious face. “You’ll remember everything soon enough.”
He grunted.
She stopped her busy movements for one frightening second and laughed a cold hard laugh. “But then when it does come back, you’ll wish it never had. Everyone feels that way.”
“What have you done to me?”
“We’ve changed you.”
