As We Know It, May 10, 2012

The sky burned red over a smoldering city.
As far as the eye could see, the landscape screamed desolation. The charred remains of trees stood against the sky like dark sentinels.
There were no sounds. Not the singing of birds or the rumble of traffic that one would have heard just hours before.
He turned slowly to the small figure on his right.
          “Time to go Jack.”
The small face looked up at him with blue eyes, smeared with dirt and grime.
A small hand was offered, and he took it without a word and walked into the new world.
